9/26/2023 0 Comments Skyview golfThe annual tournament is hosted at the Asheville Municipal Golf Course, “Muni” as it locally referred to, designed by world famous golf course designer, Donald Ross. Since the inception of the Skyview Open, golfers have come from Tennessee, Washington, D.C., Pennsylvania, Illinois, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, California, Texas, Michigan, Florida, Ohio, Louisiana, Georgia, Hawaii, South Carolina, North Carolina, Nevada, Arizona, and internationally from Canada and Bermuda to participate in our Annual PRO/AM Tournament. Today, Skyview is one of the largest tournaments in the Southeast. The largest tournament was in 1975 when 254 golfers participated in the Skyview Pro/Am. ![]() Since that first tournament that only had 50 people, the tournament has grown consistently each year. This opened the door for all people to participate. Our founding members created a vibrant golf culture in Asheville, North Carolina in 1959 and built a golf tournament showcasing some of the game’s best black golfers. Paving the way for the next generation of golfers. President Joy recognized a long-time member Sylvia Debus who is 90 and is in the hospital after an accident at home from a fall. She also thanked Jared Palmer for all that he did to get us ready for our day in Alliance. President Joy thanked Jane Faber for the wonderful cinnamon rolls at breakfast and the Alliance SWGA for the fried chicken and salads for lunch. Our pens have the PSWGA website on them for easy reference. President Joy thanked Print Express and Vern Eberhardt for their generous donation of the pens and scratch pads with the PSWGA logo. He asked her to please reconsider our decision to exclude them from our league. Pat O'Brien, President of Kimball City Council, apologizing for the previous management at Four Winds Golf Course and said that they have a new manager. ![]() This was a decision that President Joy made after she received a phone call from Mr. Motion to accept by Sally Plover and second by Vicky Dimas. ![]() This will be our new starting balance for the year 2023. Tami Pierce gave the treasurer’s report, which was the ending balance of last year after expenses from our last event in Gering were deducted, as $3,028.60. Joy introduced and welcomed two new members: Marsha Strauch from Mitchell and Deb Emrick from Bridgeport. Our first event in Gering, on May 15th, was canceled because of rain. President Joy Eberhardt opened our meeting in Alliance, at Skyview Golf Course, at 2:10 pm on Monday, May 22. Panhandle Senior Women’s Golf Association (PSWGA)
